A Frutiger Aero game with a Windows Vista and MSN Messenger look
If you miss glossy glass windows, bright aqua gradients, floating bubbles and the sound of a chat window, MSNgame Online is a free browser game made to feel like that era. Underneath all the shine it is a proper game of Ludo.
▶ Step into the desktopWhat is Frutiger Aero?
Frutiger Aero is the name people give to the optimistic design style of the mid-2000s and early 2010s: glossy, translucent glass, bubbles, bright skies and water, lush greens and aqua blues, and friendly shiny icons. The name mixes the Frutiger typeface with the Aero glass look of Windows Vista and Windows 7. It is a style many people now look back on fondly.
What the game looks like
- A Vista-style log on. Click your picture, see “Welcome” with a spinning ring, and the desktop opens.
- A glass desktop. Frosted windows you can drag, a taskbar with a glowing start orb, a clock and a Start menu.
- An MSN Messenger-style chat window. Your table appears as a conversation: a contact list of buddies down the side, a chat log, and a row of classic-style smileys (smile, wink, cool, heart, angry, crying).
- Nudge. Send another player a nudge and their whole window shakes with a soft rumble, just like the old days.
- Bubbles everywhere. A trail of soft bubbles follows your cursor, and the backdrop slowly drifts through blues and greens.
- Glossy buddies. Your game pieces are shiny little buddies in your own colour.
- Desktop extras. A Calculator and a working Minesweeper sit on the desktop next to the game.
And the games?
The main game is free online Ludo for up to four players, in Classic, Fast and Special modes. There is also Tycoon, a street-trading board game. Play with friends using a private lobby code, or against computer players.
No login, no ads
There are no accounts, no ads and no monetization, so the nostalgia is not interrupted. Choose a name and a colour in Customize Character and the welcome screen will greet you by that name next time.
